Gina Naomi Baez grew up in Long Island, New York. She began acting, singing and dancing at the age of 8. At 11 years old she portrayed an angel in A Christmas Carol at Madison Square Garden, and knew she was meant to be a performer!
At 13 years old, she was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma cancer and went through chemotherapy and radiation treatments. Songwriting, singing, acting and dancing were the true things that helped her get through such a tough time in her life. She founded a non profit performing arts organization while still going through treatment called “Kids Performing Who Kare” to raise money for the Cancer Center for Kids at Winthrop University Hospital where she was treated, and other pediatric cancer organizations. By the time she graduated high school she had raised over $250,000 through Kids Performing Who Kare.
Gina continued her studies in performing arts and took up guitar and piano. In between NYC bookings and auditions, Gina started a YouTube Channel to share some of her original songs with the world as well as cover songs. In January 2014, she sang a cover of “Let it Go” from Disney’s Frozen. Her dog Tinkerbelle kept watching her as she practiced so she decided to put Tinkerbelle in the actual video. After posting the video, the next day it was written up by the Huffington Post, blogged about all over the internet, and talked about on radio stations throughout the country. Since then, Gina has been posting weekly covers on YouTube with Tinkerbelle by her side. In August 2014, Gina’s original song and music video “Cupcakes” went viral with over 100,000 views and counting. The song garnered a lot of media attention on MTV, Perez Hilton, etc. As a result, Gina and Tinkerbelle were invited to perform live on New York’s 95.5 PLJ The Todd Show (now ” Todd & Jade in the Morning” ) and her song got national airplay on Z100’s “Elvis Duran and the Morning Show”.
Gina appears in Season 4 of the hit Netflix show Orange is the New Black, and Gina and Tinkerbelle just signed on for a reality show about their lives on Youtube and off. Gina and Tinkerbelle travel performing live concerts at performance spaces, festivals, and events. They also make it a point to give back & raise money for pediatric cancer and rescue animals whenever possible.
Cupcake Fest MKE is proud to welcome Gina Naomi Baez, who will perform her original song “Cupcakes” and several other songs at 1:00 pm during the DJ Dance Party.
